The London HR Connection is delighted to welcome members and guests to an event on 13th February where we will be discussing the huge clash that is happening – in society, but also in organisations and workplaces – between control and trust. People in organisations are having to deal with so much more control and oversight to function; they need to get more done (not just with less) but with less freedom.

However, the opposite is happening within society which is seeing a massive expansion in choice and expected freedom. Think: Netflix, Amazon, Deliveroo, Ocado – we can have the widest choice delivered to us without any delay. So, how do we achieve more freedom, self-expression, autonomy and discretion in the workplace.

Learning and organisational culture has to be able to hit the right sweet spot between creating a setting where people want to work, find expression and progress towards mastery. Within the constraints of control and boundaries of a new economic world where margins are even smaller than ever, the market is filled with competitors and scope for growth is more limited. Controlling tightly enough to have safety, but allowing freedom for innovation, risk-taking and autonomy.

We’ll be discussing building the gap between control and trust with Nick Smallman, CEO of Working Voices a global communication consultancy, and Tom Cassidy who is an expert in communication, culture and change management.

Nick is the founder and CEO of Working Voices. He’s an accomplished public speaker who has lectured and London and Columbia Business Schools, and not only that but he’s also acted as a communications coach to celebrities and top politicians.

Tom’s area of expertise is executive coaching. For those looking for a truly transformational experience to take them to the next level of their careers, Tom has the skills you need. He can offer valuable insight on resilience, change management and wellbeing at work.
