The Elephant in the Boardroom: addiction at work and the conversation leaders need to have

Date(s) - 13th May 2026
8:30 am - 11:00 am
Location
Kingsley Napley
You are invited to our next HR Connection Group event which will be a breakfast seminar we are hosting between 8.30am and 11.00am on 13th May for senior HR, wellbeing and EDI professionals.
As well as the chance to network with your peers over something delicious to eat, we will be discussing what we see as a significant issue facing many employers today: addiction in the workplace.
Most organisations believe addiction isn’t their problem – because it does not appear in their people data. Yet it does show up in other ways: repeated short-term absences, presenteeism, performance issues and critical incidents which could have been prevented.
For many leaders, it remains an invisible and unmanaged risk. Over breakfast you will hear from two leading experts who will explain, from both a clinical and legal position, what we can do to change this. Dr Georges Petitjean is Clinical Director at Inclusion NHS Drugs and Alcohol Treatment Services and the founder of WARM (the Workplace Addiction and Recovery Movement), and Andy Norris is a Partner in Kingsley Napley’s Employment Practice.
You will leave with a sharper understanding of how addiction manifests at work and the practical and legal tools to start safer and more supportive conversations in your own organisation.
This exclusive event is kindly being hosted by Kingsley Napley in their offices at 20 Bonhill St, London EC2A 4DN.
This event is free to attend for HR practitioners who should contact mail@londonhr.org in order to receive a code to obtain a free place.
