2018 is fast coming to an end but, before we all head home to hang up our stockings and overdose on turkey, I wanted to send you a quick greeting on behalf of the LHRC Board.
It’s been a great season so far, which started – after our highly successful joint summer party of course – which seems so long ago now! – with the personal branding event in September where Jennifer Holloway and Susannah Paxton from Bupa showed us all how to market ourselves more successfully. In October, Andy Bindon, the Group HRD at Govia Thameslink Railway, provided some excellent insights into the challenges which GTR have been facing and the need for strong leadership in the introduction of driver only trains and the industrial unrest which ensued. Our November event saw Matt Norbury, CEO of Each Person, chairing a panel discussion with senior professionals from both the public and private sector on the subject of Employee Recognition. They shared their ideas and experiences on the ways in which recognition can be achieved to drive increased productivity. And who could forget our final event of 2018. Our Christmas party at Live Nation/Ticketmaster, hosted once again by Brian Newman, the company’s VP International HR, at their fun and funky Islington HQ – complete with slide and jukebox!
We are delighted to announce that we raised over £1,500 via the Christmas party proceeds and donations, all of which will be paid over to our chosen charity partner, Cancer Research UK. Many thanks to all of you who contributed to this great cause.
We also welcomed two new commercial sponsors to the LHRC this autumn – Each Person, the not for profit community interest company which focuses on employee recognition, and Karian & Box, the full service agency in the field of employee insight and engagement.
We are looking forward to getting 2019 off to a great start; our January and February events are now showing live on our newly redesigned website (www.londonhr.org). On January 22nd our speakers from BP and Karian & Box will share with us the secrets of how to really listen to the employee voice at BP. Then, on Feb 26th, we will hear from River Island and Saberr about the introduction of agile working and learning at River Island. Please sign up for either or both events via our website.
We are always happy to hear your suggestions about event topics, potential speakers, new members, venues and sponsors so don’t be shy; get in touch with me or any of my fellow Board members to let us know your thoughts.
In the meantime, on behalf of the LHRC Board, may I wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year 2019.
