Getting Remote Onboarding Right

The London HR Connection is delighted to welcome several industry leading lights to give us their insight into what is fast becoming the norm: remote onboarding.
Covid-19 economic forecasts vary in their predictions but it’s a safe assumption that the organisational response will be largely the same – evolve, optimise and automate. But new ways of working require new ways of thinking and, with millions still furloughed and large parts of the economy still in some form of lockdown or early recovery, we don’t know how much – if any – of the enforced changes we’ve seen over the past few months will survive into the post-Covid world. Virtual meetings for example could be viewed as a ‘threshold’ tool i.e., if 60% of your network use it 60% of the time, we wonder how we could ever live without it. However, if after lockdown 10% of your network use it 10% of the time, it suddenly becomes a hateful inconvenience. We shall see!
One tool which does seem likely to endure is remote onboarding – an asset to those who were able to implement it under lockdown, but a notable challenge for many. In this session, Chris Rowlands and Adam Oliver from leading HR recruitment specialists, Network HR, will discuss some of the key considerations for both ‘onboarders’ and ‘onboardees’ if we are to readily adopt this practice in the new world and share some insight from remote hiring projects both at-scale and at executive committee level. They will also be drawing on their recent research conducted on behalf of the Energy & Utilities Skills Council on how to optimise the remote onboarding process.
They will be joined by Victoria Carr, the newly appointed People Director and Executive Committee member at Volante Global, the leading insurance underwriting group and the UK’s number one Managing General Agent 2019 (Insurance Times Award). Victoria is an increasingly influential thinker in the HR leadership space with two decades of experience in leading corporations including the likes of Savills Investment Management, Lloyd’s of London, Liberty Specialty Markets, Swiss Re, Accenture and Intercontinental Exchange.
Victoria was hired by Network HR via a fully remote onboarding process during the peak of lockdown alongside Volante Global’s Chief Risk Officer, Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer who were each subsequently appointed as part of the same project. Victoria will share Volantes’ innovative approach in leveraging top-tier talent in a fully remote setting and key learnings from her experience in working collaboratively with an executive committee for a world leading organisation, who’ve never met!
